Myself(Doug Carey)LBFD and Newton Ong SGFD have been heading the Medical Specialist sub comittee for the statewide RTF working group. Our biggest task for the past 5 years has been to define and put into place a statewide paramedic scope of practice for the CA US&R RTF Medical Specialist. We have done extensive work to this point with the help of CalEMA, Dr Ken Miller, Dr Steven Chin, and local EMSA's. As you may know, there are large discrepancies from the ability of the FEMA Medical Specialist and the current RTF Medical Specialist. This is mainly due to the lack of a physician being imbedded on the team. We are asking for your help/create a working model for the state of California. Chief Zigaris suggested and supported the access to this group for further development of the position. Please consider working with us and allowing the expertise of your working group.
